Bianca DuArte
Growing up in Bogotá, Colombia, Bianca was immersed in a world of light, color, and music that sparked her creativity from an early age. Her artistic journey began in school with a five-meter piece inspired by chess and Dalí’s melting clocks, setting the stage for a lifelong passion. This early inspiration led her to study Political Science and Visual Arts at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where she further developed her skills through figure drawing workshops and by learning from renowned Colombian illustrator Rodez.

In 2012, Bianca moved to Geneva, Switzerland, working at the United Nations while sketching daily life. She later relocated to the Italian part of Switzerland, where she spent two years. By 2020, after settling in Germany, she fully committed to showcasing and selling her artwork again, balancing it with a full-time job.

Bianca’s work is autobiographical and reflects her multicultural journey—having lived in the U.S., as well as in the French and Italian regions of Switzerland and Germany—speaking four languages and engaging with Munich’s international community. As a woman, she explores transculturalism, the essence of the feminine, and the ways in which nature connects different worlds. A significant shift in her artistic style occurred in Germany, where her work became more abstract as she sought her own visual voice.

Artist Statement

She creates work that is autobiographical and emerges at the confluence of diverse cultural influences and personal experiences. Drawing inspiration from the pioneering spirit of the Abstract Expressionists, and the symbolic vibrancy of Surrealism, her practice explores themes of femininity and identity through organic abstraction. Using organic forms, she reveals the quest to define identity and the ever-evolving essence of the feminine.

Her autobiographical work delves into questions such as: Where does she belong? Where does she fit in? How does she define her role as a woman in a globalized world? As a Colombian woman living abroad, what does that mean for her? Ultimately, she reflects on the shared human experience and how nature can connect people. In today’s interconnected and globalized world, the experience of belonging to a nation and the concept of “the feminine” are becoming increasingly blurred.

Bianca’s creative journey begins with the spontaneous application of acrylics on canvas, paper, or cardboard, where layers give birth to emerging shapes. She then refines them with vibrant colors and highlights intricate textures. Recurring motifs, including spirals of color and banana leaves, reimagined feminine forms, symbolize the search for identity and how nature connects different worlds. Her work is about transformation, flow, and connection.

Guided by values of multiculturalism and freedom, her art seeks to foster conversations about the diverse influences that shape individuals, the constraints they face, and the aspects of identity they choose to conceal. It serves as a visual testament to the idea that identities are not static but instead form a rich tapestry woven from multiple cultural and gender narratives. Through her work, Bianca aspires to create spaces where diversity is celebrated and where every viewer is encouraged to engage in ongoing conversations about what they see, what they imagine it to be, and how they perceive the artwork.
